Advisory board – now recruiting!

We’re recruiting for Advisory Board members to help steer us through the next phase of our development

  • Deadline: Tuesday 14th January (we’ll be having conversations on a rolling basis, so do get in touch before then if interested)

  • Expressions of interest: please register your interest in being part of the advisory board by filling out this form. This isn’t intended as a formal application process – we’d like to have initial conversations with people who might be a good fit and would like to hear more.

Our Mission

On Our Radar is an award-winning production house supporting unheard communities to share stories from across the globe.

We work with broadcasters, NGOs and funders to help people to tell their stories in their own words, combining a participatory approach with the highest production values and journalistic standards.

Our collaborative, non-extractive approach is designed to win trust, leaving behind networks, skills and confidence in the communities that we work with. As a result, we produce distinct, raw and intimate films, web-documentaries, and digital features that bring new and diverse voices into the media.

Advisory Board

We’re excited to be recruiting for Advisory Board members (3-4 people) to help steer us through the next phase of our development.

We are looking to work with people who support our mission and can help us to develop our work and scale our impact.

We’ve recently been through a strategy review and are looking for senior leaders in the following areas:

  • Documentary production: we bring a strong social mission and a clear USP to our documentary work. We are looking to expand on our work in this space by building new partnerships and areas of work.  Specifically, we’d welcome support on building our slate, and on nurturing new relationships with commissioners, funders and potential co-producers. We would also appreciate ad hoc advice on more complex budgets, IP/contracts and new business screening.

  • Third sector comms & advocacy: we believe our films and our building of reporting networks bring a unique approach to community-led storytelling. We are looking to expand on our work in this space by building new partnerships and areas of work. We would welcome support on adapting and scaling these models to be able to work with new communities and partners.

  • Business development and strategy: we feel we have clarity around our mission and vision, but would welcome support in terms of looking forward, positioning our offer and finding/consolidating revenue streams in the midst of an ever-changing landscape.

Time commitments: quarterly advisory board meetings and occasional ad hoc check-ins with On Our Radar’s co-directors. These meetings will be predominantly online, but travel costs will be covered for in-person meetings.

Remuneration: this role is not remunerated. However, we would be open to working together on joint bids or writing advisory board members into projects.

Aims: the first phase of the board’s engagement (over the next six months) will be focused on business development and exploring new partnership opportunities in line with our new strategy. The second phase (over the following six months) will likely focus on how to refine our strategy and communications to grow our revenue and increase impact.

About On Our Radar

We are an award-winning not-for-profit media organisation, working with people on the margins to tell their stories in their own words. We combine a participatory approach with the highest production values and journalistic standards to produce award-winning stories.

We do this through two main strands of work:

  • Award-winning media production: We make films, web-documentaries and digital features for audiences around the globe. Our approach is collaborative, non-extractive and designed to win trust.

  • Training and building reporter networks: We build storytelling networks to amplify the voices of unheard communities. We deliver reporter training around the world, and support organisations to engage people with lived experience in their work.

We also support influential storytelling organisations to do the same through consultancy and comms around best practice.

You can explore our showreel, manifesto and toolkits for more information.

Expressions of interest

If you are interested, please fill out this form by Tuesday 14th January, with a few paragraphs about yourself, your experience and what skills you would bring to an advisory board. We’ll also ask you to attach your CV and/or a link to your LinkedIn profile.

Expressions of interest are open on a rolling basis and we’re hoping to have informal conversations with interested candidates as and when, so do get in touch.

Please email [email protected] and [email protected] if you have any questions.

NB we always welcome exploratory conversations on any of the above topics – even if you’re not sure you can commit to joining an advisory board at this stage.

Please share widely with your networks and feel free to get in touch with any questions!
